Guidelines For A Perfect Fit
  • Measure width from left to right, height from top to bottom, using a steel tape measure. Do not use a cloth tape.
  • Depending on your preference and window design, your blinds may be mounted inside or outside the window casing.
  • Measure each window individually, as size variances are common.
  • Record width first, then height (also referred to as length) to the nearest 1/8".  Make sure you write the results down.
  • Double-check all measurements.
  • Do not take your own deductions. The factory will take necessary deductions and allowances.

Horizontal Blinds and Fabric Shades

Inside Mount (IM):
  • Inside mount blinds and shades are installed inside the window casing.
  • For the width measure the exact distance to the nearest 1/8" between inside surfaces of window frame at the top, middle and bottom.  Use the narrowest width.
  • For the height (or length) measure the exact distance to the nearest 1/8" from inside surface at top of window to sill at the left, middle and right.  Use the longest height.  If you prefer blind not to touch sill, deduct 1/4".  If there is no sill, measure height to point where blind is to reach.
  • Do not take any deductions for clearance. (The factory will take necessary deductions for a perfect fit.)
Outside Mount (OM):
  • Outside mount blinds and shades are installed outside the window casing, covering an area larger than the window itself.
  • For the width measure the exact distance to the nearest 1/8" between the outermost points where the blind is to be placed.  For optimum light control,  we recommend that the shade overlap the window opening at least 2" on each side and at the bottom.  The headrail will be manufactured to the width you provide.  The material width will be slightly less to fit the headrail.
  • For the height (or length) measure exact distance to the nearest 1/8" from where top of blind will be located to top of sill.  If there is not sill or if blind is to overlap window frame, measure to point blind is to reach.

Vertical Blinds

Inside Mount (IB):
  • Inside mount blinds are installed inside a window casing or door, or wall to wall in a room.
  • For the width measure the opening across the top where the headrail is to be installed from inside of jamb on left to inside of jamb on right.  Round the measurement down to the nearest 1/8".  A minimum depth of 2 7/8" is needed to install inside the window.
  • For the height (length) measure from the inside top of the opening on the left, at the center and on the right to the sill.  Round the measurement down to the nearest 1/8" and note the smallest dimension.
  • Do not make any allowances.  The factory will make all adjustments so the headrail will fit the opening properly and the vanes will clear the sill by 1/4" to 1/2".

Inside Mount (IB) Depth Requirements:

  • Minimum Depth = 2 7/8"
  • Headrail Flush = 3 1/8"
  • Channel Valance Flush = 3 3/4"
  • Fabric Flush = 6 3/4"
Outside Mount (OB):
  • For the width measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest 1/8".  Blind should overlap opening at least 4" on each side to ensure privacy.
  • To maximize your view, allow adequate overlap and consider the stack width.  If you want the entire window uncovered when the blind is fully open, you may need to add more than 6" to the width.
  • For the height measure the height of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest 1/8".  Blind should extend at least 3" above and 3" below opening or window molding.  For ceiling-to-floor installations, make adequate allowance for carpeting.  Specifying OB measurement means the factory makes NO allowances.

Caution:  Blinds installed on windows near wall or baseboard heaters must clear the heaters by 12" above and 6" to the side.

Patio Doors:
  • For the width measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest 1/8".  Blind should overlap opening at least 4" on each side to ensure privacy.
  • To ensure easy access through the door and allow adequate overlap, consider the stack width.
  • For the height (length) measure the height of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest 1/8".  Blind should extend at least 3" above opening or window molding.  Deduct 1/2" for proper clearance.  Specifying OB measurement means the factory makes NO allowances.
